Information Regarding Admission

  1. In accordance with the policy of the Mpumalanga Department of Education, only mildly to moderately intellectually disabled (MMID) learners may be admitted.

  2. Age Criteria:

    • From the year in which the learner turns 13 up to 15 years and 6 months.

    • ID/Birth certificate is compulsory.

    • No learner older than 15 years and 6 months will be considered for admission.

  3. Learners must have failed twice in primary school or be in danger of a second failure. Remedial education must be received before technical occupational education is considered.

  4. The staff of the current school where the learner is presently enrolled must complete the SNA 1 and SNA 2 forms. These forms, together with the DBE 123a form, must be submitted to the DBST by the principal so that the SNA 3 and DBE 123b forms can be completed, before application to a Technical Occupational school can be considered.

Before parents can apply for admission to WH de Klerk School, the learner must be evaluated by a psychologist. This may be a psychologist from the Department of Education or a private psychologist.

The following private psychologists can be approached:
    Abie Smith                - (013) 697 1144 (Witbank)
    Thea Veldsman      - (082) 672 2297 (Witbank)
    Gregory Beck          - (013) 656 4197 (Witbank)
    Jacolien Greyling  - (013) 243 5263 (Middelburg)

  5. Only after psychological evaluation may an application be made at a technical occupational school. Learners applying at WH de Klerk School, first have to write a scholastic year placement test before being considered.

    Very Important:
The results of the year placement test must correlate with the evaluation of the psychologist. The decisive factor when considering an admission, is the scholastic ability of the learner and not necessarily the IQ. Last mentioned is only an indication.

No learner will be permitted to write a year placement test without the submission of the following documentation:
    - Birth Certificate/ID.
    - A recent psychology report.
    - Proof of LSEN number.

  6. Should the school be full at such time, the name of the learner will be placed on a waiting list until such a time that there is space in the specific class as tested for. It, however, remains the responsibility of the parent to contact the school from time to time, to enquire about placement. It is compulsory that the learner attends his/her current school while waiting for placement at WH de Klerk School.

  7. NOTE: All enrollments are conditional for three (3) months. Placement will only be permanent should the learner adapt well to the school system and display appropriate behaviour.
